CardShark Content - AJ Anderson (12/31/2004)

Ok, thanks for everyone who gave me good reviews on my first article. I decided to follow it up with a more serious deck idea. This article is about my Type 2 tournament deck, a White Weenie Equipment deck, which is mostly Mirrodin-block, but with a few Champions cards. Here’s a quick little rundown on the history of the deck. It started out with the Mirrodin preconstructed Little Bashers deck. Then I started editing the deck to make it run more efficiently after each new set came out. Here’s the decklist:

These little guys are great two-drops. The Steelshaper is the key guy in this deck because he can make attaching your equipment cheaper and boost your other creatures at the same time. The lone Shikari is good, but not vital. I’ve found that multiple copies don’t really add to the power of the deck, but he’s too good to just leave out. And the Den-Guard adds to the deck’s ability to do all-out offensive while being able to block as well (thanks to “Vigilance

is extremely helpful. However, feel free to do whatever you wish, as with any portion of this deck.

This is the exact deck that I took to the Regional Qualifiers several months ago in Winston-Salem, NC. At the tournament, I went 4-3 with an underdog deck. So underdog, in fact, that only one other person there was playing White Weenie out of over 100 people. I took on 3 affinity decks, 3 anti-affinity R/G decks, and 1 Red Burn deck. I beat 2 of the affinity decks, 1 of the R/G decks, and the Red Burn deck. In the Mirrodin-Block environment, the biggest enemy of the White Weenie is a fast deck with Green in it. However, I’m unsure of how this deck would perform in the new Type 2 arena.

Deck Strategy:
First off, I wouldn’t recommend keeping an opening hand with just one land unless you have at least 2 Glaivemasters and a one-drop equipment or two, which is not highly improbable. Generally, I get at least 2 lands and a good mix of one- and two-drops. Basically, this is a strategy of just beating on your opponent as hard and as fast as you can. I usually have a good balance of one big guy in some games or several medium-sized in others, but both ways work depending on how you play and what kind of cards you draw.

Well, that’s it for now. Look for another article in a week or two on a very successful (and evil) Green/Blue Timesifter
