Swarming with Goblins -

Hi there and welcome to another installment of my ramblings on fun Magic deck ideas. I'm pretty sure that I don't really need to go into the whole ´´Time SpiralTime Spiral

 | Set: Urza's Saga Cost: 6 Color: Blue Type: Sorcery Rarity: R Number: 103 Artist: Michael Sutfin Text: Remove Time Spiral from the game. Each player shuffles his or her graveyard and hand into his or her library, then draws seven cards. You untap up to six lands. |
made me wet my pants with glee´´ stuff that everyone else is saying (even though I just did). In addition to reprinting classic cards like SquireSquire

gave us some really cool new cards like Norin the WaryNorin the Wary
|
 | Set: Time Spiral Cost: 1 Color: Red Type: Legendary Creature Sub Type: Human Warrior Rarity: R Number: 171 Artist: Heather Hudson Power: 2 Toughness: 1 Text: When a player plays a spell or a creature attacks, remove Norin the Wary from the game. and Viscerid DeepwalkerViscerid Deepwalker

 | Set: Time Spiral Cost: 5 Color: Blue Type: Creature Sub Type: Homarid Warrior Rarity: C Number: 91 Artist: Heather Hudson Power: 2 Toughness: 3 Text: U: Viscerid Deepwalker gets +1/+0 until end of turn. Suspend 4-U (Rather than play this card from your hand, you may pay U and remove it from the game with four time counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter. When you remove the last, play it without paying its mana cost. It has haste.) |
. Don't worry, that was badly used sarcasm for which I apologize (except the Norin comment - I swear that I will find a way to break him!). But in all seriousness, one of the new cards in Time SpiralTime Spiral

Nearly every card from my original deck was available online except Goblin WarrensGoblin Warrens

After guiding this deck through several incarnations online, I've been testing this version for a while now and I'm happy to say that it wins at least 80 percent of the time. A typical game for this deck goes as such:

, pump out lots of Goblins from the Guildmage, attack for the win
Now for some analysis: This deck wins by pumping out a lot of little critters and running over as fast as possible. With a good opening hand, it is quite possible to have well over 6 creatures on turn 3.
-The Skirk ProspectorSkirk Prospector

by turn 4 by sacrificing the first spell's tokens to fuel the mana for the others and so on.
-The Mogg War MarshalMogg War Marshal
|
 | Set: Time Spiral Cost: 2 Color: Red Type: Creature Sub Type: Goblin Warrior Rarity: C Number: 170 Artist: Wayne England Power: 1 Toughness: 1 Text: Echo 1R (At the beginning of your upkeep, if this came under your control since the beginning of your last upkeep, sacrifice it unless you pay its echo cost.) When Mogg War Marshal comes into play or is put into a graveyard from play, put a 1/1 red Goblin creature token into play. |
is also a lot of fun because you can often play him and then sacrifice him to gain more mana and yet another Goblin. I rarely ever pay his echo cost because in dying, he just gives me another token to replace himself.
-The Goblin WarchiefGoblin Warchief
|
 | Set: Scourge Cost: 3 Color: Red Sub Type: Goblin Rarity: U Number: 97 Artist: Tim Hildebrandt Power: 2 Toughness: 2 Text: Goblin spells you play cost 1 less to play. Goblins you control have haste.

is a 2-mana 2/2, who transforms any mana overflow into more Goblins. The drawback from losing the tokens at the end of turn can be overruled if you sacrifice them during your second main phase with the Prospector and turn their deaths into new spells.
-The Gempalm IncineratorGempalm Incinerator
|
 | Set: Legions Cost: 3 Color: Red Type: Creature Sub Type: Goblin Rarity: U Number: 94 Power: 2 Toughness: 1 Text: Cycling 1R (1R, Discard this card from your hand: Draw a card.) is mostly a throw-back from the original design of the deck, but if you need to use him in the long run, you could morph him to pump out lots of little guys. is mainly there as a finisher. I tried having more copies, but they tended to take up space. And yet I can't deny their usefulness so I still have two in the deck.

s in every deck I play. EVERY deck. You can boohoo all you want about ´´Oh, the games drag on and on when someone plays a Top´´ but I play fast with mine and their card advantage always trumps the slow factor. [Editor’s note: There is no card advantage. There’s a card QUALITY advantage because it allows you sift through unneeded stuff.] Not to mention that they're hard to destroy, that's another great aspect of the card. And in this deck, if you want to toss out a big storm count, playing a Top for one mana certainly helps in that area.

in play with multiple copies of this spell in your hand is beautiful.
Before I wrap up here, I want to warn you against the drawbacks to this deck. As you might have noticed, this is all-weenie madness. Any deck running constant damage or minus effects, like CaltropsCaltrops

s, and similar effects, I'm sorry to say you're pretty screwed. Luckily, in the online Extended environment, those effects aren't very plentiful so this doesn't occur too often.
And so here we are, at the end of the article. Feel free to discuss the deck on the Cardshark discussion boards. That's it for now. Here's a little preview of my next deck idea/article… PandemoniumPandemonium

[Editor’s note: I’ve had this article in my inbox for 5 days now as of the day it was posted, which puts it well before the Magic website’s House of Cards article that runs a Vampdemonium deck. So AJ had the idea first, but I didn’t get it posted in time to be the first one up. My bad!] Until we meet again, may your top decks always help you win (except against me)!
