Fear the Goyf - Aaron Rogers (10/6/2007)

As I lay near the fire on the Ohran summit dozing away to the cool winds and whispers of the night, a hard quake awoke me. Thud after thud I wondered what was happening. As I looked towards the field through my looking glass, I noticed a rather small but powerful beast approaching the mountain. It seemed threatening. I shattered my seal of blazing hellfire to cast a scorching flame upon the beast. As the spell singed its hair, it grew bigger, stronger, and louder. Even though it seemed more powerful, it walked with a limp. I called upon my ape companions in the treetops to swarm it and take it down. A sudden burst of strength came upon the beast as it crushed my comrade’s skulls beneath itss gigantic feet.

After seeing it crush the apes I had to call in some serious reinforcements. There was an old troll in the forest that no one would mess with because he was an angry troll that withstood many battles and still to this day is as strong as the day he was summoned. The troll, angry and tired, inched towards the beast with the intent of stopping it dead in its tracks. He only found himself flung to the peaks of the treetops where the apes once resided. Alive but badly wounded the troll mumbled a single word: “Tarmogoyf

.” Infuriated, I sent in the high flying jester of a goblin named Mogg to fling himself at the beast in hopes to destroy him once and for all. After he flung himself to the Tarmogoyf

, the battle looked finished. The beast stumbled and staggered only to catch its balance and advance towards the summit.

Meanwhile, I had to strategize. I figured I would give my Gargadon a hammer and hope he could beat the beast down with it. As he made his slow advance to the Goyf, I cast an arrest spell towards it. It did nothing but fizzle into nothingness, making the beast appear to be even stronger! As the Gargadon swung his massive hammer towards the Goyf’s skull, the hammer rotted away into nothing more than ash and the Gargadon vanished into thin air. I sent a lightning bolt straight from the rift towards it, only to miss and hit a nearby elf. This made the Goyf angry as it advanced even closer. Finally I had enough of trying to kill the beast and only fail so I called upon the master planeswalker known as Chandra Nalaar

. Her only remark was “Out of my way! I’ll take this beast down if I have to go down with it!” She sprinted towards it in full force and hit with everything she had until both lay unconscious on the cold white snowy ground of the Ohran summit. I was joyous as the battle was finished until I saw the Goyf’s large hand rise up. It was still alive. It climbed to its feet, beaten and tired, and advanced towards me.

When it reached me, I knew it was about to crush every breath of life out of me. It stared me down and finally roared “This is not the place I seek. Direct me to where I can find Garruk Wildspeaker

.” It tromped off, leaving all of the remains of battle lying on the cold desolate ground. I stayed there, standing alone and watching the beast disappear into the forest snapping branches as it journeyed to the front lines of the legendary Garruk’s army.
