. So amazed, that I was left dumbstruck that people would trade me theirs for a Yawgmoth’s Will. Years later, I look with thoughts of happiness, remembering the decks I built when I first started playing, followed briefly by thoughts of vengeance that no one tipped me off the yawgmoth’s will was a pretty good card, then quickly thoughts of happiness again.

For those of you that don’t know, Slaver is a Type I deck which hovers near Tier 1 but is more often found in Tier 2. As I normally play Type II, I was amazed to see that not only was Urza

Now, to explain the card choices for the deck.

The land package:
Entirely non-basic, this is specifically suited for the deck. As the deck is red/blue/black, the city of brass is VERY necessary. While a Grand Coliseum

. One black mana for a 1/1 that can gain flying? Who would ever want that? It's not an Imp, it's a 1 mana gen-u-ine discard engine! It gains flying, and apart from the hurricanes of the world, odds are that once it hits the table, you'll have your little engine in place for the rest of the game, or however long you decide not to block with it. The Welders are self explanatory, and if you never found out what they did, they have the ability “Tap: Exchange target artifact a player controls with target artifact in that player's graveyard.” For you who might consider building this deck, I'd recommend you read up on the errata that makes it less broken to a small degree, but for those who just enjoy reading up on interesting decks, that's all you need to know.

Instead, use it to buy a turn or two while the other deck searches for the inevitable method of dealing with it, while trying to combo off. Tips on playing the deck:

-When you draw two lands and a mox diamond in your first hand, discard artifact lands to play the mox. No artifact lands? Discard lands that tap for two colors. Which one you choose to get rid of depends on what cards you have the least color of in hand.

-It’s very rare to get mana flooded with this deck, but if you do, it’s probably best to mulligan. A good starting hand will have 2 to 3 lands, and 1-3 one drops. Preferably, it will also have at least 1 combo piece, but if you have a Vampiric Tutor

-Try to play welders as soon as possible. Generally, you want to play a welder turn 1 and then your servitors or imps turn 2. Play brainstorm turn 1 instead of a servitor.

deck, if they have any artifacts in their graveyard, you can switch the scepter for an artifact and get rid of the imprinted card.

-Finally, NEVER, EVER attack with welders.
