Greatbow Colossus - Andy Lam (4/28/2008)

I started my foray into the world of Magic: The Gathering when Morningtide

There really wasn’t much of real value in the box, but there were two creatures I knew I had to put together: Greatbow Doyen

, everything seemed to click into place.

I pretty much ripped the theme deck apart and put it back together piece by piece, but I didn’t get the results I wanted as the deck was now split between amassing elves and playing the “Greatbow Colossus”. To make matters worse, the deck itself was way too slow coming out of the gates. After a few weeks of searching/trading for cards, I came up with this decklist with the cards I now had:

s were a must for just having some recovery after a board sweep (this was present in my playgroup).

For creatures, I only went with 2 “Greatbow Colossi” due to the fact that I really only had two of each card (sigh, budget player) and the 8 accelerants just to speed up the deck (I don’t like being slow). The Wren’s Run Vanquish

(or both, depending on the situation, but obviously not in the same turn) to the top of my deck and then play the Colossus, then the Doyen in the next turn (while swinging with the Colossus), then beefing up the Colossus and swinging for lethal damage (to your opponent).

Now what you’re probably saying is “What the heck are you talking about? You’d never pull this off in a real game” or “You’re not even factoring in your opponent’s deck. You are stupid!”, but this is why this is just a casual (read: for funsies) deck and not a tournament winning deck. There’s a lot of things that’ll keep this deck from shining, although it’s basically anything that’ll remove your Colossus or Greatbow from play or a deck that won’t be affected by removal. There’s also a few cards I still need to throw in, like a second Garruk, two of Lilliana Vess, more Greatbows and more Colossi.

I hope you enjoyed my deck, I know I did (and still am, you don’t know how many times I had to ask my friends if they were sure they wanted to block with their creatures because they didn’t realize they’d take damage regardless).
