Black and White - Classic Control - Anthony Carbonaro (7/6/2008)

I became very angry with Wizards of the Coast when the Kamigawa block was released. Many people, like myself, believed that set broke Magic: The Gathering. I realize in retrospect that I was correct, but that was a necessary evil, like algebra homework or learning how far your first car can't go on a full tank of gas. The point is that every once in a while, Magic needs to be balanced. Kamigawa, and some think Lorwyn, were created to level the field and start Magic fresh. I built this deck with that in mind, manipulating the greatest black and white cards from before and after Magic was ´´rebooted.´´

For new players, nowadays control in Magic means blue. Lots of blue, nothing really spectacular without seeing the same control deck over and over. Well, in a time before, well, Kamigawa, blue was not the only control option. Black was right there, only for the most reckless and talented players. Quite often, black cards did more damage to the controller in the hands of an unskilled player. I miss those times, as do many of my peers. This is a deck I constructed to teach not unskilled, but new players how Magic was.

Recap:

This is not a tournament legal deck, this is not an easy deck to play. When this deck wins, it is brutal, but when it loses it is shameful. If I forgot anything during this article, email me and let me know. Also, let me know if you get any epic wins with the deck, because they are tales for the ages.
