Drafting Commons in Lorwyn - Red - Arthur Childers (1/3/2008)

Those of you who have read my articles before (and taken time to comment on them on the forums- and if you did thanks) know I am a big booster draft player. I try to do booster drafts 3 - 4 times a month and sometimes even more.

I wrote a series of articles about the commons you will see while drafting. In a regular 8 person draft you will see at least 3 rares, 9 uncommons, and 33 commons from packs you open. But when you factor in the other players each of these numbers will increase so you could see up to 24 rares, 72 uncommons, and 264 commons. (If my numbers are a few off it is because I didn’t take into account the last person taking their card but the point of this article is not to figure mathematically which cards you may or may not see. ) So what I want to do is address each common and decide if I would draft it and how useful I feel it is in draft on a 1 - 5 basis, 1 being like a Zephyr Spirit

from Ravnica block (which if it was the last card passed to me I had to tear up because I was never going to use it) and a 5 is a card I would even draft over a bad rare. I’m going to start with red because in alphabetical order the commons start with red.

Usefulness 5
This tribal instant not only does what my little friend does (Chewie a link to my other article Meet My Little Friend would be appropriate here) [Editor's note: if only it worked that way...] by making a creature every creature type available but it does it to 2 creatures and gives them a power boost at the same time – it is a great surprise to pull on your opponent.

Blind-Spot Giant
Would I draft it? Yes
Usefulness 4
Most people pass this by because of his apparent inability to block to attack unless another Giant is in play. With all the changelings in the set this is easily overcome and if you get 1 Stinkdrinker Daredevil
