Meet My Little Friend - Arthur Childers (11/10/2007)

The weekend of October 12th – 14th was a very intense weekend of Magic and Lorwyn for me. It kicked off at midnight on the 11th (actually first thing in the morning of the 12th) with a Lorwyn release event draft at a local store. I went sweep, swept, and then 2-1 in a 3 round draft – no big loss but it did get me familiar with a lot more of the cards that I didn’t get to see at the Prerelease event.

Friday night I drove out of town to a small shop I frequent often in Jacksonville called Off On The Square (Their shop used to be on the square then they moved around the corner from it – hence the name). The owner there on occasions will do a 4 pack booster draft making it an extra incentive to play there. I went in fully planning on drafting elves, only to find after a few packs went through my hands that other people had the same idea - I quickly shifted gears to come up with the following deck

Now that I’ve listed both decks let me introduce you to my little friend (said with a thick Pacino accent) he made it to both decks and proved to be extremely valuable in fact Ill be happy to draft him whenever I can ….. from being destroyed by a Boggart Logger by making him lose his treefolk creature type until the end of turn.

-Stopped multiple creatures I controlled from being destroyed by Eyeblight’s Ending when they suddenly became an Elf too

-More than once allowed me to untap elves with Deathtouch when I could untap all my merfolk at the end of turn by giving them the extra creature types.

I do plan on going through the colors and determining their viability in a draft format but I want to share a few things I learned this weekend.

1) Lorwyn is fun ( I just miss all the gold cards of Ravnica)
2) MERFOLK ROCK !!!! (Unless you’re playing them against me)
3) Deathtouch – there's a lot of that going around
4) Vivid Lands – Great for mana fixing in draft
5) Hideaway Lands – The Blue Land with the merfolk and the green land with red really seem to work well (go Aggro)
6) Changelings are way too much fun
7) Tribal Kicks
