CardShark Content - Beatdown Bedford Crenshaw (3/22/2005)

This should be an interesting piece. I am notorious for not only loving mono-red, but for deeply hating blue. Blue has always been the wuss-boy color to me; fit only for those sniveling cowards that like hurl insults, but then couch behind an authority figure when you go after them. I’ve been known to devote all 15 cards in a sideboard against blue. Now in draft, I like drafting an honest flyers deck, but I always thought that counterspells were too cheesy. That said, on to the rating.

– Grade B-
Playing blue, you are probably playing plenty of arcane spells, so getting to flip this should be fairly easy. A ¾ flyer for 1UU is very good, and the countering ability is typical blue annoyance. I’ve lost drafts to this card, so don’t underrate it.

The 4th best Shoal or the second worst, depending if you are an optimist or a pessimist. Unlike other “free” counters, the pitched card must match the exact cost of the spell you are countering. This can be an iffy situation. Therefore, its my favorite of the free spells so far : )

For the same casting cost as “Fat Moti”, you are trading away +1/+2 for a slightly better creature type and protection. By the time you can play this, you have enough counters in your hand to protect your creature anyways. – Grade C+
This card has an identity crisis. It needs to be cast for its ninjitsu, as its hard casting cost is a little too much. However, blue is not known for its one-drops. Also, looking at an opponent’s hand has always been one of the poorer abilities for a card to have, although it does help counterspelling. The best use for this card is to save one’s ninjas from certain doom, or to bring back a valuable ninja for it to strike next turn. However, this works best if you have lots of weenies, and blue’s weenies leave something to be desired. Not a bad card; at least the artwork’s great.

There you have it, the last of my Betrayers reviews. In just two months, I will get to do the Saviors cards. Maybe then we’ll finally see poison come back
