CardShark Content - Beatdown Bedford Crenshaw (9/16/2005)

The upcoming Ravnica expansion focuses on four color combinations. Two of them, Red/White and Black/Green, are enemy-color combinations. As such, few gold cards have been created for these combinations. As I am not allowed to give you the heads up on the Ravnica cards, I am instead whetting your appetite by looking at the previous gold cards of these two color combinations, so that you will know what will merge nicely in your Boros (R/W) and Golgari (B/G) decks. Buying the desirable cards now will save you money compared to what you might have to pay come October. Given their nature, I will just give the cards reviewed an overall grade.

For Boros R/W

Captain’s Maneuver (AP) - C
The X in its casting makes it flexible, but to make it useful requires just too much mana.

Decent price, but because it needed mana open it never saw any serious play; which is too bad because I just love the premise of the card.

The problem with this card is that its 5cc makes it impossible to be an easy surprise card; 1RW would have been more than enough. Would be lots of fun against a Kiki-Jiki deck, were it cheaper. As is, you’d be better off with Captain’s Maneuver, which isn’t saying much.

Probably the best Shadow card never played, as the decks of that time focused on mono-colored decks. If played with no other Shadow creatures around, he is a solid anti-creature card.

At 8cc it is just unwieldly, especially since it’s only worthwhile to use when killing a 7cc or more critter. I’d give an F, but creature destruction always have a place in Limited and I only give F’s to cards that offend me.
