for the delay of this report; I’ve gotten addicted to Blitzball, and the Jecht Shot in particular.

For my 28th prerelease, I had to decide on which location to go to. I was going to go to Indianapolis, but then my chauffeur said something about wanting to go to Columbus, so I decided that it would be acceptable. I hadn’t been to a prerelease in Columbus since Judgment (May 2002). The changes while I have been gone were glaring. For starters, the location was at the Ohio State Fairgrounds, where it cost $4 to park, which was overly ambitious if you ask me, considering the parking situation. Then, it appears that PES, who runs these events in Columbus, have taken to wearing unfortunate lime green shirts, although I noticed that their commander-in-chief, Mike Guptil, wore red instead. When I walked into the building there was one spot open for early bird flight #3, and this was at 7:55am. I quickly signed up and got ready to play. After looking at the deck I got to play with, I decided to go two color. Let everyone else go for 3-colors; I want mana consistency.

The main problem with this deck is that I had little control, which is useful in Limited. Also, I thought that 16 land and the few mana-fixing artifacts would be enough; I should have paid more attention to my mana costs and played with more land, as most of the losses I got was due to lack of land. I never regretted going with only 2 colors.

Round 1 Jerome Ricke ???

1-1 I have found Ledgewalkers to be useful, and this game was the start of it. Being able to pump it up gave me an easy win.
1-2 He never saw his mountains, so my fatties just cruised on by for an easy victory.

2-0, 2-0, 1-0

Round 2 Matt Coe WGB

2-1 I only had 4 lands all game, so I didn’t stand a chance.
2-2 I had a solid distribution of creatures, which ran over my opponent.
2-3 I had a chance to win, but his Magemarks were just too much to handle.

1-2 3-2 1-1

Round 3 Andrew Sieber ???

3-1 I had too much beef for him
3-2 I kept pinging him, but his Teysa + recycling his cards was too much for me.
3-3 This was another difficult match for me, but I found my Wurmweaver Coil

, planted it on a Ledgewalker, and quickly won.

2-1 5-3 2-1

Round 4 Jon Gobreski RG w/u

4-1 He never touched me, as his slow start got me an easy win.
4-2 He almost got me, but my Coil found its way on one of my unblockable creatures

2-0 7-3 3-1

Round 5 Patrick Moriarty WBG

5-1 He had too many tricks for me.
5-2 I waited out his tricks, and used my Gruul Guildmage

5-3 Just too many beats for him. He told me afterwards he had two Pillories of the Sleep

less, but he never saw either all three games.

2-1 9-4 4-1

My record was good enough for 4th place, although I had to wait 40 minutes after the end of the round for my prizes to be awarded to me. I tried to take my picture in my Cardshark T-shirt, but I haven’t been able to tell if it got took in my digital camera, and my APS camera still has too much film left to get it out of the camera, so who knows when I can turn in my picture to Cardshark. Oh well.

My initial reaction to Bloodthirst is that it is rather hard to work around, especially the cheaper ones. With the fatter one, you are likely to have been able to damage them before you cast it, but the cheaper ones are either having to be cast un-bloodthirsted, or sit in your hand until you are lucky enough to bloodthirst them. More reactions on individual cards when I start my card reviews next week, starting with Red and Gruul.
