CardShark Content - Beatdown Bedford Crenshaw (2/26/2006)

With the heavy handedness of certain guilds in certain sets in this block, it’s hard to figure out how best to review the cards. I’ve decided that Blue and Izzet really need to be reviewed together. Therefore, I’m merging of these two into one article. Besides, I always liked Izzy, and since he went in retirement in 1996, I've wished he’d come back. (And kudos if you get the references)

For a long time WotC have been making cards that are supposed to punish people for playing 4 of a card. This is the best attempt yet. If creatureless decks were more popular, then this would see regular play. However, creatureless decks are now few and far between, and blue decks which would play this would also be hurt by this card more than likely. The real purpose of this deck is to punish token decks, which is the only reason to play this in Limited.

The artifacts in this block are not quite good enough to maindeck this, although if playing Izzet against Gruul, it might be nice to copy their Plow. In Extended, it might be fun to copy their Darksteel Colossus

Not a bad addition if you are playing straight Izzet.

To really use this, you need the Top or other deck manipulation. Even then, a shock would cost 2URR to cast, making it too expensive an ability for this card. Nice art through.

This is the one red/other combo in which the land will usually come into play tapped, as it’s a slower combo than all other red combos.

CONCLUSION:
Blue and Izzet have a lot of fun cards, which is why I like this set’s blue related cards. If blue would stay fun, and not cheesy, than I wouldn’t mind it so much. Oh, and since I can’t resist…
