Don’t Fear the Different Dimension - Ben Ahrendt (6/3/2009)

Hey all, it’s Ben, back once again. Your favorite semi-retired Yugioh player is back once again to lecture about one of his favorite types of deck: Different Dimension decks.

If you play Magic, the idea of your cards being removed from play is terrifying. However, if you play Yugioh, it’s still unnerving but nowhere near as bad. In fact, there are cards that enjoy being removed from play. Here, let me give you my Different Dimension deck before I continue:

Effect monsters:
2 Banisher of Light
1 Beast King Barbaros
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
2 D.D. Assailant
2 D.D. Scout Plane
2 D.D. Survivor
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 D.D.M.- Different Dimension Master
1 Golden Homunculus
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
1 Helios- The Primordial Sun
1 Helios Duo Megistus
1 Helios Tris Megistus
2 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
1 Marshmallon
1 Slate Warrior
1 White-Horned Dragon

Spell Cards:
2 Dark Core
1 Dimension Fusion
3 Dimensional Fissure
1 Fissure
1 Lightning Vortex
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Nobleman of Crossout
1 Nobleman of Extermination
1 Shield Crush
1 Smashing Ground

Trap Cards:
1 Blast with Chain
1 Bottomless Trap Hole
1 Crush Card Virus
2 Dimensional Prison
1 Dust Tornado
3 Macro Cosmos
1 Spell Jammer
1 Trap Jammer
1 Sakuretsu Armor
1 Mirror Force

So, there’s my deck. It’s pretty bad and disorganized, but you get the general idea. It wants to get out the Survivors and Scout Planes and one of the Remove enablers to allow me to play as many creatures as I want. The Dimensional Master and Fusion are for getting back my creatures that don’t auto-recur themselves, such as D.D. Assailant and D.D. Warrior Lady, since they automatically remove themselves and take a target with them. It’s got various remove from play cards that allow me to power up my Helioses and Golden Homunculi. All in all, if I put some more work into it, it’d be much better. Fewer general utility cards and more specific utility cards. But enough about me.

Another utility creature for such decks is D.D. Warrior. It’s the cheapest and weakest of the D.D. soldiers, but it’s a good thing to get in the way and scare the crap out of some poor sap who isn’t going to attack into it. A “Timmy” (To use a Magic term) card that involves the remove from play zone and that I love very much is Inferno Tempest. It’s hard to take 3000 points of damage from one attack, but the effect is quite worth it. Have a Golden Homunculus or a Helios or a Gren Maju Da Eiza (good, I should have one in), then swing for the win. Or use Dimensional Distortion or Dimensional Fusion to get back whatever creatures you want. The possibilities are semi-endless. Have fun with it. Remember, D.D. Survivor cannot return to play more than once each turn!

Update: I just added a couple of great cards to my Beatdown deck from last article. Burden of the Mighty and Skill Drain. Burden will seriously retard your opponent’s aggressive and defensive capabilities, allowing you to control the board more easily. Drain will completely mess up your opponent, as well as allowing you to play cheap, powerful creatures without dealing with their abusive drawbacks. Hey, here’s a pro tip. If you start up Skill Drain before playing or while Beast King Barbaros is out, he can be played for his discounted price and he’ll still be a 3000 attack creature! Go nuts, readers!
