CardShark Content - Ben Smith (7/9/2004)

This deck is potent. That is the best way I can describe it! Since my first peek at Krark-Clan Ironworks, it made me salivate. I just knew there was something to be done with this card. Thinking back to the days of Enduring Renewal

Decklist:
4 FROGMITE
4 ORNITHOPTER
4 DISCIPLE OF THE VAULT

4 KRARK CLAN IRONWORKS
3 MYR INCUBATOR
3 FIREBALL

4 CONJURER'S BAUBLE
4 THOUGHTCAST
4 SERUM VISIONS

4 PENTAD PRISM
4 CHROMATIC SHPERE

4 SEAT OF THE SYNOD
4 GREAT FURNACE
4 VAULT OF WHISPERS
4 DARKSTEEL CITADEL
2 GLIMMERVOID

Now that the list is out of the way, we can move on to card selection.

CREATURES:
-FROGMITE is usually played for free adds to affinity and provides a decent early game body.
-ORNITHOPTER is a free flier and can be used to chump or add to affinity count.
-DISCIPLE OF THE VAULT is your secondary win condition. 20-30 tokens + KCI = ouch.

COMBO:
-KRARK-CLAN IRONWORKS is the power house here… sac your arties to him collect the mana for a massive Fireball

to the dome or use the Disciple’s loss of life to kill your opponent.
-MYR INCUBATOR is your primary win condition. Get this guy out quick with the KCI, then at the end of your opponents turn, pop the Incubator for 20-30 Myr tokens and swing for the kill. You could also use the tokens to sac for mana for the massive Fireball

.
-FIREBALL is you other primary win condition. Do I really need to explain???

UTILITY & ACCELL:
-CONJURER’S BAUBLE is a nice thinner in the deck… Helps you draw that extra land, or win condition, or whatever.
-THOUGHTCAST is there for draw, card advantage = win.
-SERUM VISIONS is very nice in here as it lets you draw one and scry 2, setting up your combo hopefully.
-PENTAD PRISM is very good accell. Turn 2 with two counters means turn 3 win with the right opening hand. This also works as a great mana fixer.
-CHROMATIC SHERE is great, mana fixer plus can-trip (card draw) all in one.

LAND:
-ARTIFACT LANDS are used to help speed up the combo.
-GLIMMERVOID is a mana fixer as well.

HOW THE DECK WORKS:

It’s really pretty simple, get your combo pieces as fast as you can and “go off.” The sideboard for this will very greatly depending on each persons are meta game. I will leave that to your capable hands. It’s usually a good idea to wait until you have your win in your hands before laying any piece of the combo down… This has worked for me very well. Once the KCI hits the board you should win that turn. During my play-testing, this happened an average of turn 4, no later than turn 6 and I’m sure turn 3 is possible with the right hand…

The other variation of this I have been toying around with uses Myr Servitor

. As of now, I can’t say which one is better, so I would suggest trying them both and see which one works better for you.

The only other thing I want to say is pay attention to what you are doing and how much mana is in your pool and what not, because it can get uber confusing with the stuff this deck can do…

That’s it for now, hope you enjoyed the article!
