Avacyn Restored in Constructed - Billy Moreau (5/20/2012)

When Avacyn Restored started to become spoiled talks began as to what cards would be good in different formats. I decided I would give my opinion on what cards will impact Constructed.

Legacy
Legacy is not a format I play or really keep up with due to the expensive cost of the cards. There has been plenty of talk online about the impact cards. These primarily include two Miracles:

, if it happens to be the first card you draw on your opponent's turn you may still play it.

Mono Red decks will experiment with this card and will fail miserably. It is too expensive to cast in a mono red deck if you draw it in your opening hand. The 5 damage to a player early on can be devastating played for its Miracle cost but its not worth the gamble. I would almost expect to see more Mono red decks trying to refill their hands with Reforge the Soul

would finally get banned in Legacy. My opinion is why ban the old card if it is fine without the new one. I don't think either should be banned. Yes taking an extra turn in Legacy may be a game winner but most decks will either have disruption for the spell or have you dead by the time you can Miracle it out. When first previewed the card was selling for upwards of $45-$50. Now it is rapidly falling back to earth and can be found on Cardshark for as little as $22 and change. Expect to see this card drop to lower than $15 before it settles down. I do not see this card being played with more than 1-2 copies of in any Legacy deck. - A powerful late game Mill card. Lately there have been a lot of mill cards in Blue that don't see much play. This card may be a worthy card to play in a control deck. Most control decks try to set tempo before winning with their win conditions. This means it can be turn 15 or even later before they are going to try to win. With this card by turn 15 you probably have played 10-12 lands and have 2-3 copies of this card in play. You would then be able to Mill out your opponent in one turn. I know it's not a powerful card or one that will see a lot of play but it will be fun to lose to this.

- In the first Standard tournament with Avacyn Restored this card was played in many red decks and people saw the power of allowing your opponent to build up a planeswalker to it's Ultimate ability then stealing it and using the Ultimate ability on your opponent.
