Going second with this deck is a good idea.
Bid zero as you don’t have any burden removal, on the off chance that you start pull Aragorn with The Riddermark – With a lot of people choosing to use the Riddermark themselves you may find you’ll get Aragorn out easily enough even when going second…but if not it doesn’t really matter – Aragorn’s just a bonus to help out with and difficult skirmishes, he’s not a key point to the discard function of this deck.
The Shadow side of this deck has the strongest discard power. Why?? I hear you say. Well its because the Uruk’s can still pack a nasty punch. A Rager with a Sword who’s made fierce by Saruman can discard 6 cards from the top of your opponents deck in one turn (NICE!!).
The likes of the NEW Dunlending’s from Helms Deep are very useful in the fact that if the FP player chooses to discard cards from hand, then that only cost you 1 or 2 twilight to get that effect. If they let you keep them, then they could be a whole ‘Swarm’ of trouble as most of the other minion’s are cheap.
The Uruk Captain is essential to this deck. With the current sites its not very likely to be short of twilight pool, thus retrieving discard heavy uruk’s (like Rager) wont be too hard, not too mention there aren’t many discard uruk’s you can use so what’s available needs to be recycled.
The Free People’s side of this deck is quite the classic discard (as there hasn’t really been any new FP cards that revolve around discarding).
The dwarves welding their axes + Legolas with a white arrows are the main ways of discarding. The likes of Greatest Kingdom, Curse their foul feet + nobody tosses are aids in your quest to run your opponent out of resources. There are only 2 nobody tosses in there, cause I find anymore than that can really clog your hand if your not on the winning side of skirmishes.
The old sting can really help you when using your curse their foul feet etc…. cause you’ll get to see their hand first, making the most out of that one card.
Erestor will help against saruon direct damage + Grimir will keep those What are we Waiting for events recycling…. And these 2 allies will just keep on healing and using their abilities with a little help from Elrond.
I hope you have fun with this deck.
This deck can be competitive, but will suffer mainly to shadow decks heavy on large minions (ringwraith mainly).
It had to be made open format, because Saruman mainly makes the shadow side work – without him and it would be too difficult to make the discard part of the deck work.
