CardShark Content - Colin Martz (6/10/2004)

This article will discuss the value and of the rest of Fifth Dawn's green cards in the formats of constructed and limited. To learn about the first half of these cards, please read part one of my green set review. Again, each card will be given a rating on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being the worst and 5 being excellent, as well as an explanation for this rating. Please remember that the majority of the statements in this article are my opinions, and that any magic card can be manipulated in a way that will turn a game in your favor. Now, to complete my review of green cards of Fifth Dawn I will begin where I left off, continuing with Rite of Passage

Limited Value: 3.5 - If you can manage to cast this enchantment early on in a limited game, you will soon find that your creatures are steadily growing more powerful, as most decks in this format rely on speed and brute force to defeat an opponent. Remember that Rite of Passage

's ability also takes effect when your creatures block, therefore you can quickly raise the power and toughness of your defensive or weak creatures, creating an even stronger attack force.

Constructed Value: 1.5 - Frankly, this card (along with most cards that use abilities involving slowly pumping up your creatures) is too slow for a competitive constructed environment. Why bother with waiting multiple turns until you are ready to overrun your opponent when you can do so in a single turn with Psychatog

Choose one - Untap all lands you control; or until end of turn, lands you control become 2/2 creatures that are still lands. Entwine 2G

Limited Value: 3.5 - The untap all lands you control ability is fairly useless unless your possess many lands, though the creature producing ability is more intriguing. Of course, this card is most effective when you can pay for both entwine costs, as are most such spells. In a limited game, it is very likely that you will survive long enough to be able to do so, at which point you will have most likely overrun your opponent with at least 8 2/2 land creatures plus your other critters.

is quite useless unless you can pay for both entwine costs, which is far too expensive to appear in time to finish off your opponent. It also leaves your lands vulnerable to many forms of creature destruction, which could easily ruin your day, destroying all of your precious lands. Most spells that have entwine abilities are most effective when both costs are played, and Rude Awakening

Limited Value: 4 - This creature is a great way to boost the amount of damage your small creatures with evasion deal, and it will often do so by 3 or 4 points of damage. It can also block, and pump itself up before damage is on the stack, easily creating gargantuan blocker.

Constructed Value: 1.5 - Though this creature is a respectable 3/3 for 4 mana, its creature-pumping ability is unreliable, as it depends on the total number of artifacts your opponents control.
