CardShark Content - Corey Carter (9/29/2003)

Amidst the chaos of large group games there are usually severe consequences for playing bombs or important combo cards early in the game. Suddenly everyone at the table is focused on you, and we all know that is never good if you actually want to survive or even enjoy yourself. For this reason most of my decks are built not around two or three card combos but as decks where every card has a relationship to every other. With this in mind I bring you my favorite multiplayer chaos deck. It’s all about…the Art of Misdirection

This deck works on many different levels at one time. First of all it rewards the other player for not running over and killing you. This is important! I always try to play some of my reward cards before I play any of my kill cards. Some of these rewards cards include Howling Mine

actually works in a number of ways. First it rewards the other player for playing creatures by letting them off some of their opponents’ creatures. It also works to encourage interaction between your opponents, this being another important aspect of the deck. By encouraging your opponents to focus on each other you are taking the spot-light off yourself. Another card that creates this kind of effect is Traveling Plague

. The next aspect of this deck is discouraging your opponents from attacking you. Cards that work in this area include No Mercy

. The rest is basically utility cards.

Now the thing to keep in mind when playing this deck is politics. Work with everyone until you can kill everyone. Remember that many of the aspect of the deck while nasty and effective also serve as misdirection. You’ll be amazed how many times people will take care of the annoying card as soon as possible while leaving on the board the card that will eventually cost them the game.

I hope that everyone enjoyed reading about my deck and can take some part of this article back to their group to improve their own multiplayer experience.
