CardShark Content - Corey Carter (11/2/2005)

Greetings all, I’m sure that most of you have already checked out the newest Magic set Ravnica. There have already been quite a few articles posted based on the new cards coming out of this great set. This is not one of those articles. If you have read any of my other articles, which you should, you’ll know that I like to use every card at my disposal in my multiplayer decks. For this reason I get rather excited when a new set comes out, but I’m usually left with great new cards that just don’t seem to fit into a deck or building whole new decks based on using older cards with new block mechanics. The block mechanic decks usually don’t stay together long, in fact some of them never really get played. This isn’t the case with Ravnica however; and actually this is the best set of cards I’ve seen in a long time from a multiplayer standpoint. Well now that we’ve established that Ravnica is awesome, let’s put some of those cards to use updating one of my favorite old decks.

Ok, so this is one of my very favorite decks because of all the crazy things you can do with your creatures, graveyard, and mana. The main purpose of the deck is to create a massive army of symbiotic creatures that never seem to stay dead. For more on all of this, time for the card by card.

The cost of each creature ability requiring an activation cost is reduced by 1. This cannot reduce an ability's generic mana cost to less then 1.

This card is great for making your Spikes become much more flexible by lowering the cost of their +1/+1 counter tossing by 1 colorless mana. It is unwise to have more than one out at a time though since it helps your opponents’ creatures too.

Whenever any of your creatures is put into your graveyard from play, you may put that creature on top of your library.
’s Stronghold:
For good reusable recursion this is your one stop shop. It is great in this deck or in any other black deck for that matter. [Editor’s note: It does not, however, produce black mana, even if it is the “blackest land I ever seen!”]

Now that you know what all the cards do and how they work together it should be pretty simple to see how the deck works. I suggest leaving mana open whenever possible for combat tricks and quick removal. This deck is full of utility and creature tricks that take a while to get used to, but it sure is fun to play. Please use the forums to post any thoughts on this deck or other cards that might work as well. Until next time, have fun and play multiplayer!
