A Fistful of Jank - Slippery Slivers - Evan Pringle (2/28/2014)

Remember when people first began to spread the rumor? “Slivers are coming back! In a core set, even!”

At first, there were some doubters: older, jaded players who believed slivers would never see the light of day again. A typical valid point: what could they do with slivers that hadn't been done before?

Then the spoilers began to come out, and some Magic players reacted the way they all-too-frequently do – with venomous spite. “What's this ‘sliver creatures you control' crap?”

What it all boiled down to was that, just before the core set was released, the Magic community held its breath and wondered: were slivers going to be “a thing?”

If you've been paying any attention to the meta at all, you can easily answer that question: not so much. Naturally, this made me want to make a slivers deck and take it to my local FNM!

The idea behind this deck is simple: play slivers, turn them sideways. The slivers generally make all your slivers better. Add the Door of Destinies

For game two, I sideboarded some cards and had a better time. I was brought down to 18 life, and he to 16 (via his shock lands). We were at a bit of a standoff for a while, building up our armies. I had several varieties of slivers and he had a fair number of humans. I stared at the board and finally realized I could win; pay 3, sac my Glaring Spotlight

came down to exile my only blue sliver. The game went to time with us both at 14 life. We were one turn into our five turns to finish up the game and Brian received a phone call that forced him to concede the game and drop from the tournament. So, I chalked up a win, but I honestly don't think it would've ended that way had we played it out; it probably would've been a draw.

Round 4 brought me to the table with Trevor and his blue/white control deck. We only needed two games to decide this round, and in both of them, he did more damage to himself with shock lands than I did to him. He used Last Breath
