CardShark Content - Grassey (4/30/2004)

I am back again to show you one of the best decks in standard right now. What I am talking to you about is green black cemetery. I can guarantee that if you play this deck correctly that it can beat any deck in standard, also I am convinced that 90% of you who read this articled will give up your, let it be ravager, goblins, slide you name it, and make my cemetery deck. Before I get ahead of myself let me show you what this deck is capable of doing and how it’s done.

All right now that you have my complete deck list and sideboard you can see for yourself that it has a lot of artifact hate. This deck was molded to destroy any deck that contains artifacts.

The Birds are here for acceleration; any deck that needs to compete with any fast deck must be equally as fast. Also they come in handy for sacrificing to you carrion feeder, which I will explain later.

. He is very cool. In the event that you do get stuck against one of those artifact affinity decks, then you will want him. If they play ravager you will have a real treat. Ok so they have a bunch of workers out and are clamping them and sacrificing them to ravager, right? Lets make them lose life also. Now I have heard that a lot of ravagers play Disciple too, so they deal damage to you and you stick right back to ‘em. One advantage that you have is Ravenous Baloth

In the event that you play a control based deck, and they have one card in hand and you put it on top of their library, then they have no cards, right? Then at the end of their turn you sacrifice your rats to your feeder, then during your upkeep you bring them into your hand and cast them again. Complete and utter madness. I’ve seen it happen before, usually after the first 2 or 3 times they just scoop. Think about it this little rat made your opponent scoop!!!

about that but ravager can’t be saved by welding jar and neither can anything with a casting cost of 3 or less. Lets smother the 11/11 ravager, o no he is going to put the counters onto ornithopter, that’s to bad o well lets smother that also.

After you fetch your needed land you can sacrifice him to your feeder, or use him for a chump blocker. He can also thin out your deck assuming you have a cemetery in play. Just whatever you do, do not forget to draw your card after he pays his trip to the graveyard. I cant tell you how many times that I’ve seen people not draw their card off Jens, and miss a game breaking card. Its quite sad….

I think that 19 lands are adequate for this deck but in the event that you are land screwed, yes it does happen, and can take a few points of damage then you can play for instance that much needed Birds. I guess it can be very useful in the clutch, but other than that I really don’t see any use for it.

. This card is very controversial in my opinion. It could be substituted for a lot of things but I think that it should be here because of decks such as goblins, white weenie, U/W control ( if it still exists), and even urza tron. It just ruins decree of justice, so it’s good enough for me.

This sideboard is very different than what other decks I have seen are playing. I feel that these cards are very important because of the decks that I see. If you are seeing no need for any of these cards in your area than by all means substitute them out.

Let me tell you what a typical Cemetery hand should look like. One Birds of Paradise

, 1 swamp, 1 forest, 1 withered wretch, 1 carrion feeder, one cemetery. Ok turn one forest then birds. Turn two swamp, wretch. Turn three draw a swamp or city, cemetery and feeder. Turn four Baloth. End of turn four sacrifice wretch Baloth and birds. As you can see this would be a pretty lucky hand, but it could happen. You might get chittering rats and play him, or you could get simulacrum, anything can happen but make sure that if your playing a ravager deck, that you have to get out your artifact hate, shaman. Also if you don’t win the first game after side-boarding makes its a lot easier for you. Bring in banishing, oxydize, and even naturalize if you think its necessary. If you still cant win than either you played a really good ravager deck, never seen one (chuckle), or you just made simple mistakes.
