, Suspend has been one of my favorite mechanics. It’s a bit like an investment. You pay a small amount now for big returns later, and like all investments, there is some risk involved. The way I see it, there are two major drawbacks to suspend cards. First, you must spend mana for a delayed effect. Suspending Ancestral Vision

My first encounter with a Suspend deck was during my short-lived experience with Magic Online (I enjoyed playing, but never liked buying “cards” I already owned). This was around the release of Future Sight

I really liked the some of the decks I saw, so I made a mental note to look into a Suspend deck of my own. This idea, like many of my mental notes, was lost in the depths of my mind for quite some time. It wasn’t until I came across the Johnny-tastic Jhoira of the Ghitu

Deep-Sea Kraken - This guy is a staple of Suspend decks and is made even better with Jhoira. Typically, he suspends with nine counters for 3 mana. Jhoira can cut those counters in half for one less mana. Note that whenever an opponent casts a spell, you can remove a time counter from the Kraken. In a multiplayer game (especially big ones) there is a real chance that you will have this guy on turn four.

- This guy can be a huge card drawing engine in a suspend deck. His drawback, however, is that he costs at least five mana. Note that unless you need a blocker immediately, it makes the most sense to suspend him. If you hard cast him, which costs five mana, you get a creature that can not attack until your next turn. If you suspend him for one turn, which still only costs five mana, you still get a creature that can attack on you next turn (again, suspended creatures get haste when they come into play), but you also get to draw an extra card. I almost never pay his suspend cost, however, as I typically use Jhoira to suspend him instead. The Aeon Chronicler

As mentioned earlier, the main goal of this deck is to cast the Worldpurge

with as many suspended creatures as possible. Remember, if you have more than one suspended spell activate at once, you (the caster) can stack them as you choose. Make sure you put any Worldpurge

(s) on the TOP of the stack so they resolve first. That way, you have an empty battlefield for your creatures to enjoy. When I can pull it off, though, I like to hard cast the Worldpurge

might be your best way to actually get it to resolve. I also suggest waiting to cast Jhoira until you have the mana to suspend at least one spell (i.e. at least 5 mana), because she draws a lot of hate from opponents. Using the aforementioned Clout of the Dominus

would cost four mana to cast with Jhoira, but it would give her shroud.

One thing to keep in mind: this deck was built specifically for multiplayer, so it is slow. It is too slow, in fact, for most duels. This deck is nearly unstoppable when played by the emperor in an emperor match and is always tough when you have some teammates. This deck is also strong, but draws a ton of hate, in free-for-all matches.

So, there’s my Suspend deck. Feel free to throw some comments my way.
