CardShark Content - JP (4/25/2004)

Well it’s time to see the results of the first round of the (scary voice) “Tournament of the 5 Magics!!!” (End scary voice) As you know, (if you haven’t seen my first article on this) the best 2 out of 3 no sideboard single elimination tournament to end all tournaments is underway as the top 16 popular/not so popular decks duke it out over which is better. I’ll visit each match with the results and a summary of what happened, so let’s get to it.

1st Round

#1 Ravager Affinity (0-0) VS. #16 Cleric (0-0)

In game one the Raffinity deck went first but it was a pretty slow and standard start. Then the one thing the Cleric deck couldn’t recover from happened. It got mana screwed. The game was over in 5 turns and the Raffinty deck didn’t even get a Ravager out. Myr enforcers and Frogmite

ended their hopes as the next turn the staff belcher combo dealt out 43 damage to Equipment. So we go to a third game were Control goes first again. later Control was getting its life basically stolen in a tremendous victory for equipment. Another upset as Equipment moves on at (2-1).

#3 Goblin (0-0) VS. #14 Arcbound (0-0)

As this game started with Goblins going first, a first turn lightning bolt soon showed the way this match was going to end up. This was by far the worst beating of the tournament thus far. There were goblins everywhere! The 4 Sharpshooters mowed down the acrbound creatures and whomever they modulated over their counters to. The Piledrivers were attacking as 29/2 while the ringleaders and recruiters brought out 4 goblins a turn. It was hard to watch. In game two, arcbound went first, but it didn’t matter. It was over before you could write a summary about it. Goblin advances at (2-0) and looking very dominant.

#6 Angel (0-0) VS. #11 Myr (0-0)

Angels took the first turn as the match started, but preceded to get mana-screwed. Since Myrs are artifacts there was no CoP help, and the Myr enforcers were attacking left and right. So second game Angel went 1st yet again, and yet again lost. The Myr had the 3rd turn “Urza

destroyed it. After being pecked by the Myrs for 7 turns Angel Finally lost.
Myr moves on at (2-0).

#7 Dragon (2-0) VS. #10 Suicide Black (0-0)

Dragon opened the match that would eventually end with its defeat. There is one thing that Dragon decks cannot recover from, and that’s missing multiple land opportunities. After missing three it was pretty easy to see how the match would end, a mass of Dauthis attacked for 8 each turn and eventually fell the Dragon deck. So second game the dragon opened again. This time instead of being mana screwed it got three of its mountains destroyed. Yet another army of Dauthi and Shade’s slaughtered the defenseless head of the Dragon deck. Sui-Black moves on at (2-0).
