It is known, by every Magic player, that the most basic form of winning is to deny your opponent of life points. Well besides that there a hundreds of ways to win the game. In type 2 alone, there’s the Ravager Affinity deck, using explosive speed and amazing damage capabilities to simply pound you away. You have your goblin deck, using its own mix of speed and strategy to beat you with one of its many win conditions. Astral Slide

s. There is, however, common ground with every one of these decks. They all need their key cards out, and they all need the resources to get them out. Well how do you stop a strategy that wins every time? You stop it from ever happening.

Enter Land destruction, artifact hate, enchantment hate, creature hate, and a large variety of anti-strategy cards. Well a very lethal combination is achieved when the right balance of anti-metagame is combined with a rather unusual win condition. The idea for a deck such as this had been bounced around from playgroup to playgroup but always passed off as a simple noob deck with no intention but to ruin your opponent’s day. Well here is my shot at one; ladies and gentlemen I give you “The Player Hater”

It’s pretty easy to see how it works, but let’s play the numbers game. This deck offers many different strategy-screwing spells, some with multiple uses. Because of some cards double functions, you have 16 artifact hate, 16 land destruction, 4 direct damage, 12 creatures, 8 mana acceleration, and 8 anti-enchantment cards at your disposal. This offers wide ranges of possible strategies you can both implement and ruin. Let’s look at the cards found in this deck.

Well there you have it, the deck list and rundown of The Player Hater. However no deck is complete without a sideboard, the problem with this particular build is that no true sideboard works out. The point of this deck is to be anti-metagame, so it is important for your sideboard to be specialized to your playgroup.

This is by no means an entirely fast deck. However the Chrome Mox

If you are interested in the Type 1 deck, I recommend looking for other articles about Type 1 Landstill or Type 1 Land destruction decks. Any Power 9 cars you may own will fit one way or another into this build.

Remember that speed is king, and the faster you start destroying land, the better off you will be. Based on power for money, I would have to say that the 1.5 build is the strongest, however Type 2 can be successful if paired with a good sideboard and tuned to fight its metagame.

Until next time, remember Magic has style, and nothing says “Pimp” like gold sleeves in a purple box…
