The answers to these puzzles will be in my article next week.

Now here’s the main article:

It all started about a month ago, when I was beating my brother with my white extended deck for the fifth or sixth time that day. He said that he didn’t think I could build a type 2 deck that would be any good. That, you see, was where the problem started.

I’ve played Magic for about five years, and in that time I’ve chaired clubs, built combos, written articles and even started a website. What I haven’t done, however, is to build type two decks. There were always reasons, some of them very good ones, for me not to do it. For example, there haven’t, until recently, been any tournaments near me. It’s expensive and it puts a lot of my old cards to waste.

But that’s all changed now. A shop is holding type 2 tournaments fortnightly near me. I have more money than ever, and I had been challenged. I was going to do it.

I immediately collected together all the information I could about the metagame, particularly in these small tournaments. It appeared that people were playing token decks or alternative victory condition decks – and that the winner of this tournament was normally the boy with a Spiritmonger

s in the damage race.

After some time spent puzzling about this, I finally came up with the answer to all my questions. A five colour deck with the Invasion Dragons! A quick check discovered that Invasion was still in until November, and I was immediately on the net shopping for Dragons.

I was in luck – I bought copies of all the dragons I could from British Collectible Cards and proceeded to build myself a deck. I wanted it to be fast so I used harrow, Quirion Trailblazer

.

The next thing I wanted was some powerful creature removal, to get rid of anything that stood in my way. I put in a terminate (I would have put in more, but I only have one) and some treva’s charm, to kill it. This left me with only one thought in my head – what if someone killed my dragons. After some thought I decided to put in some countermagic. I put in a couple of Counterspell

But, alas, it was not to be. Half way through last week I got some new cards, and in them a Quirion Dryad

– how could I not include these great cards! After a long and agonizing wait, I managed to make the space. With six pounds left in my pocket I didn’t need any more cards, so I bought a pack of Torment
