CardShark Content - Jesse Deal (7/11/2004)

Creature tokens have to be one of the most annoying aspects of Magic. The reason for this vexation is that they don’t really physically exist. As players, we have been forced to use dice, beads, coins, upside down cards, card boxes, torn up plains, D&D figurines, Risk pieces, army men, Combos™, and most unfortunately our imaginations (ugh, thinking). Of course Wizards of the Coast occasionally gives us promotional creature tokens. Back when Fallen Empires came out, The Duelist was kind enough to have little cardboard counters and tokens for things like Saproling

There are three principles to a token deck. The first principle is to bear in mind that token spells are not necessarily creature spells and so they are not normally affected by spells like Grid Monitor

The basic principle of this deck is to amass your army of creatures until you have enough to kill your opponent. Sounds fun to me. If this sounds lame, read some of my other articles. They are quite entertaining (plug, plug).

Like all great things, one must start out small. The most important step is to get some tokens on the board. Without our small minions, there will be no chance of spawning armies so don’t go chump-blocking with these guys. Chatter of the Squirrel
