CardShark Content - John Malcolm (12/15/2003)

Hi! Welcome to the second installment of my draft series. I was happy with some of the responses I had gotten from you; I am an amateur writer, and as the suggestions and criticisms come in I feel I become better as a writer.

The second color I am covering is blue. The thing you need to understand about blue is that it is the least aggressive color in Mirrodin draft. This means you will need to pair it up with a highly aggressive color in order to play it.

RARES

(Unfortunately, most of the rares in this color aren't very good in draft. To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't take anything except Vedalken Archmage

Like I said, Blue is not an aggressive color, and some of the best cards to choose are the ´´utility´´ cards. The Archmage is a powerhouse in draft because you will be running enough artifacts to draw a card almost every turn from it. The biggest problem is that Vedalken Archmage

Great in Affinity, but you simply won't get out enough artifacts to make it worth its cost. I think the best you'll do is a 5/5 flier for 5UU, which isn't spectacular.

This would be a fine card, except for the last sentence: ´´Play this ability only any time you could play a sorcery´´. This severely limits it from being used at end of turn or for any combat tricks.

Blue doesn't really have removal, but this is the closest thing. Thusly, you have to put up with this card's biggest disadvantage. If the card is tapped, it means they've already used it. So this card isn't all too helpful if they've already attacked you with a huge artifact creature.
