A Mono Blue Peasant Deck!

Peasant Format inventor Rob Baronowski lamented after last year’s Peasant Tournament that there were essentially no blue decks in the tournament. Indeed, aggressive Red, Green and White decks dominated the finals rounds.

However, there is a viable Mono-Blue deck that can be very effective against most the major decks in the field. This deck was inspired by a Mono-Blue control deck I remember from way back in the day that played 4 Faerie Conclave

The threat of a blocking 3/3 Factory Worker can often hold off attacks for numerous turns allowing you to stabilize the board position and start out-drawing your opponent.

THE MATCHUPS

As I have said before, I consider the defining deck of the format to be Sligh. Whispers Control can consistently beat Sligh because of the massive card advantage from Serrated Arrows

Machine deck will probably be an auto-lose to Whispers Control because it has so few threats that Whispers Control has to counter. Similarly, Magma Tide is likely to lose to Whispers Control because of the low number of spells that need to be countered.

CONCLUSION: CONTROL IN PEASANT FORMAT

For control nuts like me, Whispers Control provides a viable strategy against most of the Peasant Magic field. At last year’s Gen Con Peasant Tournament, I did not see many control decks, except for several White Life-Gain decks, but I believe control is a viable strategy. Part of the reason I’ve been working on Whispers Control is that I think it’s good for the format to have deck-type diversity. The prevalence of aggressive decks in last year’s tournament suggests an imbalance that may be capitalized on by building a deck that can controls the creature threats. Whispers Control has 18 cards (Repulse
