So my team and I have recently taken an old deck into consideration for standard play. At 2004 states one of the popular decks was Blue Green Control. I played a match up, when I was playing Tooth and Nail

, and took it with pure luck. Having an answer for the big threats was really important. Never the less the deck was a hard match up. Sadly it had trouble with affinity. Well affinity is gone and now Vedalken Shackles

. If these hit and they don’t run Hibernate main deck they’re in trouble. So all this got me to thinking…Blue is very strong right now as is Green, why not combine the efforts to bring back U/G Control? Well my team and I did and here’s the list and description of card choices.

*What I have come to learn about describing sideboards is that no matter what you put in it, it’s still only as effective as the instances where you need the cards. So basically what I’m saying is look at YOUR field of play and determine what is best for your deck.

Pretty much standard in most Blue decks. Her instant speed flyers can really save you, especially when you bounce your stones when they’re about to die.

He’s pretty much self explanatory. He avoids shackles all day long and he swings in with whatever equipment you put on him. In this deck it’s Jitte

Mana fixation is important. Plus if you drop it early it’s a good few points of damage to your opponent. If you have a Jitte down, he becomes a BIG threat.

Like the Troll he dodges shackles all day long, problem is he can’t be equipped or enchanted or even targeted even by you. Not every card can be Super Troll.

If it’s not apparent by now most of the creatures in the deck have good evasion against blue. This one, like the Budoka, is un-targetable by everyone. He does trample and he does swing in for 6, and being only 5 mana to drop, he’s quite the addition for this deck.

Hard counters late game are VERY important. The untap allows for an inspiration to follow the end of your opponents turn. Very strong card for this deck.

It’s one of the best early counters and it’s only made better by the scry ability. Problem is a lot of newer players will forget to scry. It’s a very important thing to remember to do.

Once again, hard counters are very important. Just remember that you probably want it on the bottom of their library. I like to argue that the bottom of the library is better than the graveyard due to Eternal Witness

Umezawa’s Jitte
Broken, that’s all that really needs to be said about it. It was broken at the pre-release and it’s broken now. It’s a versatile tool box for whatever you may need to do. Off a creature, save your guy, gain some life, or even win the game.

It’s a beat stick, and people usually forget that it can be tapped for mana even after animation. Meloku loves this card and saves its butt all day long.

With all the decks and other articles I’ve posted on here I hope that it helps players in their gaming. Best of luck to all and as always
Happy Gaming
