I love lands. Who doesn’t nowadays? Besides forming a simple component that’s necessary for nearly all decks, they can be sometimes a pain in a most familiar way. Remember that time when the wrong color always showed up? Or even playing that great sealed deck and waiting in vain for a pesky land to come up? Or maybe that time when land was the only thing you drew? Such a pain, right?

Well, the best I can say today is that at least for one moment I found myself in a totally new perspective for these annoying land troubles, and, of course, the idea to cure this seemingly helpless problem resulted in something totally unexpected. My friend came up to me one day while doting on an absurd idea for a new deck. He asked me, “What if we could make a land deck?” I laughed outright. Hah, a land deck!! Land, a component that never fully cooperates with anyone. A deck? No. Funny, but no. This did not daunt him at all. Before I knew it, he had talked me around to it. I began to wonder…

Well, it happened.

No, you don’t need to adjust your screen. Forty-six land. Though I’m not sure whether the deck idea has actually been tried before, I am confidant that the notion has probably been kicked around. Take a closer look, and you’ll see that the deck is also Extended. Not bad, but how in the world are you expected to win? Here is where the fun starts.

The biggest problem confronting us when baking up this idea (after determining the first obvious land choices) was not really how to get them out, but how to get them out FAST. When looking at my measly collection I am often forced to turn to my creative side. I ideally want three to four lands out by turn two. In case you haven’t noticed, of the forty-six land in the deck, exactly twelve are basic land. Harrow

might do the trick. Their creatures die, but you have the unfair advantage of sidestepping any “creature loss” to yourself. Call them selective elves if you want. Either way, they’re just fine for me.

s). Overall, it was fun playing the deck, and it gave me a new respect for my absurd ideas. At the very least, I can say that I have never run into any mana problems with this particular deck. After all, one man’s mana pocket is another man’s win.
