CardShark Content - Kenneth Smith (3/18/2004)

I looked at the possibility of white weenie decks, and though they are not the most prevalent deck around, there are some decent cards I have not really seen anyone avidly discuss that can really change weenie decks around. Have you ever wanted a beatdown/discard/burn/mass control/recursion deck all in one? I remember when I first started toying around with deck ideas. I won’t lie. I wanted it all! I wanted the supreme deck, you know, that one inspired deck that answered everything including where the remote to the TV really was.

Well, I have seen some pretty nasty decks toying around with a combo of ideas, but I never saw a deck that could fundamentally incorporate five or six different deck strategies into one. That’s just unheard of, unless of course, you are that incredibly fortunate individual in a pack war, draft, or sealed tournament (be honest). Equipment, especially the recent additions from Darksteel, really brings such an idea into focus. What I imagined to be close to an impossibility now seems feasible.

The experiment is not just wholly limited to white weenie, though WW has the best support for it so far in this environment. I chose WW as example because of my own preference, but don’t be afraid to go outside the box. Let me show you a deck.

This is a decent deck to play someone casually, or even depending on your particular environment, in a tournament. It is the basic weenie idea, but the twists make it interesting and viable. Control is much more present in this variant, slightly reminiscent of Astral Slide

, are perhaps a perplexing part of my environment. I have seen no one use them. I wonder why. These cards do, in my opinion, the unthinkable. Besides pumping up the weenie (+2/+2), they grant pro-blue/red (Fire and Ice), pro-white/black (Light and Shadow) in addition to more abilities. Fire and Ice allows for card draw and additional damage!

Light and Shadow is scarcely less formidable with recursion and life-gain. They are both decent in casting cost, and for the abilities, the equip cost is nothing to shake a leg at. These are the jewels along with Skullclamp
