CardShark Content - Kenneth Wright (9/23/2005)

OK, slight disclaimer before going through the entire ideology here: I am not an oldskool Magic: the Gathering player. I get confused when cards from Alpha to Odyssey are mentioned. My favorite sets are the Onslaught

set and the Mirrodin block, and I hardly use the Kamigawa cards, although I do admit their power. So, if the following idea can be improved by adding cards from the sets previously mentioned, feel free to do so; this deck idea is experimental.

set brought about the Words cycle. When I first saw the Words, I did not take into effect their full power, considering the fact that a draw and a mana of any color had to be sacrificed, and my deck strategies used deck accel/control. It wasn't until I started looking for strange ways to create ´´loops´´ in a single game that I saw the Words’ real power.

In the Mirrodin block, Darksteel set, there is a powerful artifact called Geth's Grimoire

which would help me accelerate a zombie deck by replacing damage and regenerate cards with discard cards. It wasn't until I added Words of Waste

that I noticed a looping structure: In one turn, using five mana, my opponent had no hand. Since I saw this feat, I have been searching for a way to expand this strategy to burn the opponent for discarding. Since I could find no such cards, I had to add another color to the mix.

The deck became a red/black burning discard deck, using Words of War

. Since using both Words cards would require huge sums of mana, I added red mana acceleration cards from Mirrodin such as Seething Song

was a must, but I also added other cheap artifacts to the fray. Very few creatures were used, but all of them stuck to the theme.

For the record, the deck uses:
-Red mana acceleration cards from Mirrodin Block
-Assorted Black discard cards
-Artifacts from the Mirrodin Block
-Creatures that force discarding with damage
-Blue Artifact digging cards

When did Blue get in the picture?
