CardShark Content - Matthew Sablan (9/27/2004)

So I arrived at the Champions pre-release at Dream Wizards with limited spoiler knowledge, and three friends. It was 9:00 AM. While two of them went to get breakfast, which turned into moldy croissants and orange juice, I had a talk with a judge from out west about the new rules. While I learned that Humility

should never have existed, and that judges “don’t talk about Licids,” I also learned a bit about the new rules. Two hours went by as we waited outside, and our initial reward at 11:00 AM was a shiny Ryusei, the Fallen Star. Not a bad way to start the day.

Then the deck construction began. I pulled some very good blue card drawing, but not much else worthwhile in blue. My true strength came in my white and green spirits and other creatures. Splashing some of the common black removal (Rend Spirit

So, how was I planning to support these multiple colors?

decided to pump something as well. Namely, his something. Kokusho died, draining five life from my opponent. Then, Nighteyes the Desecrator brought Kokusho back. The second match ended soon after that.

The second match was a complete blow-out. I don’t know if anyone will agree with me, but Battle-Mad Ronin is just a bad card. My opponent had two of them beating on me, as I made a more sizable army that he could not block. Bushido is a much scarier ability when you are in control, rather then your opponent. The first game against my second opponent was painless. The second game ended quickly, when Nighteyes the Desecrator reanimated my opponent’s Kami of the Painted Road

The third match was much closer. The first round my opponent and I were both mana screwed. I only had green and white, I needed black for my removal, or red for my splashed Frostwielder
