Guevin was fairly talkative when he sat down and asked Hanson about how he found the table and if he had any picks he agonized about. Hanson was reserved and shuffled his cards and offered only short replies. From what I could tell, Guevin was trying to get Hanson to talk about his deck and the cards in it, but Hanson was playing coy while trying to draw a little bit of information out himself.

“I’m 1-0 in feature matches so far today,” Guevin told me, “I hope the streak continues.”

Daniel is from the Seattle area and had qualified via the Northwest Regionals. Guevin is from New England (he said New Hampshire-area so I’m guessing he meant New Hampshire) and didn’t need Regionals to qualify (Pro standings).

Guevin won the die roll and chose to play. He looked at his opening draw and then sent it back for 6 new ones. He seemed happier with the new cards and Hanson kept. Guevin opened with a Mountain

I thought that was a strange block because Hanson was at 18 life and he tapped his Medic which made it more vulnerable to removal. He got away with it and Guevin passed the turn.

Guevin didn’t look happy with his next draw and kept his team back on defense. The Deacon came across again. Guevin made a point of putting the ability on the stack, but let it resolve. As they were shuffling up for game 2 (Guevin had quickly announced he was playing), Guevin commented that Hanson has drawn almost the perfect Cleric draw against him. Hanson still stayed fairly quiet, other than to comment to me that he was surprised I’d take his picture considering he was wearing a tee-shirt advertising a website that sold singles that would be a competitor to Cardshark.

Guevin continued to say how hard his deck has against a nuts Cleric draw like he just was on the receiving end of. Hanson smiled and said that the Contested Cliffs
