CardShark Content - Mike Simpson (4/12/2004)

Black is by far the strongest color in Darksteel. It’s commons are far better than everything, but blue which is the next best color. Blacks uncommons aren’t that spectacular and neither are the rares, but there are 11 commons to 3 uncommons to 1 rare so commons always play the biggest part in your limited deck. I will go over the pick orders for commons, uncommons, and rares in black for Darksteel.

is a very good removal spell. Sometimes you’ll get more than 1 creature with it, but it rarely happens. This gets rid of good early drops such as myr, Oxidda Golem

did back in MMM. If you can ever get multiples of this your opponent will have a tough time to win especially if you go first. In a DMD draft I got 3 and actually played them all in sequence at turn 3. My opponent could never recover.

Another sleeper card, not too many people realized how good this card actually was. It is very aggro obviously with the life loss. A flier in black for 2 mana is very good. It’s much better than a Bog Imp

Here’s where the cards go dull. This card is very very aggro. With a 3/3 body though it’s not horrible in MMD since the creatures are weak and overcosted just like this guy.

A worse version of Tackle Maggot. This is still good in limited though since toughness and power degenerates are good. It’s hard to play against this card since it’s always just gonna be on a creature of yours and it’s gonna make it worse.

A flier in black for a good casting cost is nice. It’s ability makes it even better. Most of the times it will do about 6 damage to your opponent which is very good for a 3cc.

5 mana for a 0/5??? Nope, it’s a Nim! This is a very good card. Most of the times it will be a 3/5 that will kill any creature it touches, plus it can’t be regenerated. This is a first pick by far.
