Jund's Lethal Vapors - Phil Bohn (7/1/2010)

Hello again. Phil Bohn here with another awesome deck that is super fun to play. As a little background to this deck, I was listening to the Mana Pool (plug) and heard Mike talk about a card called Lethal Vapors

gets out a little bit late, I can still make sure that I’m going to be okay in terms of life. And finally, the deck is not as simple to play as it may seem (more on this later).

Here’s how the deck plays. Obviously, you’re going to be looking for a turn-1 Hierarch (Llanowar Elves

is also acceptable here. If the Hierarch gets out, a turn-2 totem is possible which helps a lot with acceleration. Now, depending on what’s in your hand, the rest of the plays are pretty reactive. Activate the totems and start beating with either them or a Zendikon at first chance to start chipping away at your opponent’s life total.

Now comes the tough part. As a warning: Don’t play Lethal Vapors

as soon as you possibly can. Why? It may be obvious but in case it’s not, this deck is Red, Green, and Black, colors that don’t normally take extra turns for free. Make sure that you’re in a position where you can deal plenty of damage when you play your Lethal Vapors

until the right moment, and when my opponent (who later revealed to me that he had been holding a grip full of creatures and was stuck on 4 land) destroyed the Vapors, I swung for 10 total damage in the subsequent turns. Jund was not given the ability to take extra turns for a reason.

After that, all that’s necessary is to mop up afterwards by burning them out with Bolts and attacking them, all the while using the removal that you have, by now, drawn to take out the one or two creatures they can reliably play on the turn after your strikes. break, since it’s indestructible. The deck is really fun, and always comes out of left field, especially when your opponents have no idea what’s about to hit them. I hope some of you get a chance to try it out and experience the fun for yourselves. Thanks for reading, and may extra turns grace the humid jungles of Jund as you visit them.
