. This game went a lot smoother for me, playing Aegis and moat, shutting down his only creatures, elephant tokens, birds, and elves. He wanted to rage me, but a traumatize and a millstone put him away.

1-0

Second Round: U/G Speed

First Game: Prolly what lost me is that I went second. YIKES!! A second turn mongrel and a third turn arrogant wurm put me out of my league in 5 turns!!!

Second Game: Sideboarded in 4 moats and 3 gainsay. This time when I went first, I countered his mongrel, and got out a moat quickly enough to stop bearscape and arrogant wurm. He could’ve won this game, but he forgot his mongrel could change colors.

Third Game: Same as the first game, but it took him longer to kill me than he did first time.

1-1

Went and got some burger king, came back and got ready to be disappointed again.

Third Round: Pure Black Machine Head

First Game: Not much of a challenge, all his stuff was high-costing things like corrupt, which he still couldn’t cast, because I absorbed it. This game was undeniably easy. He got away with a Haunting Echoes

came up a couple times, but his only creature was mortivore. As powerful as it is, it didn’t help him. Double and triple mill took him away in the wind.

2-1

Feeling on the upside again, but it wasn’t long.

Fourth Round: B/W-I dunno

First Game: Went second AGAIN. I decided to burn the dice I was using when I got home. Close game, but he burned me away vindicating my millstones, and bringing back...ICHORID. I remember saying in my first article that this was a problem and it was.

Second Game: Went first, and won. I’m starting to see a pattern here... Anyways, obviously Sideboarded in the Moat

s, and let them hit 7th turn so I could counter and disenchant or vindicate he could throw. He conceded after I traumatized him and let another moat hit the board.

Third Game: Went second, and lost. Damn patterns. I did get moat out, desperately on my fifth turn, and he proceded to play Ichorid

, and disenchant it. I conceded.

2-2

Went to Burger King again to pick up a drink and some fries, came back, had a crunch bar. Prepared for round 5.

Fifth Round: Not sure exactly what it was, but it splashed blue, and had green, and black. As we set up our decks, he said to me, “If this is the third millstone deck I’ve played today, I’m gonna cry.” I looked up at him, into his eyes, and said, “Got any Kleenex handy?”

house again, and I traumatized him, he said, “If there are 2 spiritmongers in it, I’ll concede.” There wasn’t, so he kept playing until 3 of them were in the graveyard, and I syncopated his last one. He conceded.

3-2

At this point, I knew I had the slightest chance of making it to the top 8, but it played on.

Sixth Round: U/G Control

This was the most embarrassing, because I lost both times to a Gaea’s Skyfolk.

First Game: Went second again. I hit the table REALLY hard. This is the part where everyone laughs at me because I couldn’t get any counterspells out of the 16 counters and the 4 opt and 4 FoF. Gaea’s skyfolk flew in and killed me.

Second game: Better, but short-lived. I got moats, wraths, counters, and traumatizes. They concede.

Third game: Couldn’t get 3 counters all game, couldn’t get a wrath, couldn’t traumatize. All he had to do was keep flying in his Skyfolk and made my face turn red.

3-3

All in all, it didn’t go too bad. Only the last game I really got screwed over. I got my elvish lyrist and got an iced tea, played a couple video games, spent the rest of my money on packs, and left. I got a Khamal out of one of them, so that was cool. I saw a bit of the top 8, and they were bad. There was only one good deck that got in, and it lost first round. I could’ve beaten any of them, but I wouldn’t be able to find out. Well thanks for reading, and thanks to those people who have responded to my Puzzles. If you need them again, here they are:

That should keep you Intermediate Players busy. E-mail me the answer!

::Expert Puzzle:: (Type II)

Nothing with turns. There is a very neat combo using 3 rarely used enchantments and a creature. I’ll give you the sets to make it a little easier. One enchantment is from invasion, one from Odyssey, one from Torment

The answers will be in next week’s article. And people, only 3 of you e-mailed me about them. I know more of you out there are smart enough to answer these.

Here’s a bonus puzzle because it relates to the ones above.

::Bonus Puzzle:: (Type II)

First Turn: Land, Creature
Second Turn: Land, Enchantment.
Third Turn: Land, Instant, Enchantment, Play up to 26 2/2 creatures. They concede.
