The Fires deck doesn’t gain as much in Type II from Planeshift as, oh say, BLACK RED, but it does get some significant changes that will improve it in many ways. To the main deck the changes should be in the form of Flametounge Kavu and Shivan Wurm

. I think the kavu will be a very good addition to the Fires deck. It gives you a 4-power creature for 4 mana and a burn spell all rolled up into one. True, it doesn’t hit your opponent in the head but it will take out his blocker so you can come through with your army. I took out Ancient Hydra

costing one more to play and usually not being able to kill creatures right when he hits the table. Although hydra does hit multiple targets and your opponent he usually only hits for four and is gone in a few turns.

is next on the list of changes. I think he isn’t worth playing 4 of but definitely worth playing. Anytime I can play with a fat 7/7 trample with a minor drawback I am going to. The reason the wurm isn’t worth playing four of is simple; sometimes you just don’t have a creature to gate due to a mass removal spell like Wrath of God

. These guys are the only changes to the main I see making a big impact to Fires in Type II.

With the changes to the deck I think Fires has improved a great deal and will continue to be a powerhouse in Type II.
