When we think about Goblins, we can think of two distinct builds. One deck uses Patriarch’s Bidding along with Terror

to bring back a horde of hasted goblins. The other (Straight Goblins) is mono-red, as faster than the Goblin Bidding counterpart. Some decks will put 3 Patriarch’s Biding in their sideboard, to create some surprise for an unsuspecting opponent.

These two decks have a lot in common. They share great rares, like Goblin Piledriver

s, but one build is a turn or two faster than the other.

The mana base is usually not a problem for Bidding, and the only problems that Straight Goblins (hereby referred as Goblins) has is the occasional mana screw. Both builds use direct damage to win, but Bidding does it all in one turn, while Goblins throws everything it has at the opposing deck. Both builds can be very successful, although currently, Bidding is the more popular choice.

. If playing Goblins, I also suggest that you get the fetch lands associated with mountains. This will immensely thin your deck out for a better shot with the Belcher. If they have both Ivory Mask

Against the W/x Control, Goblin Bidding is much better off than Goblins. However, in a field of more aggro decks, Goblins will get the nod. Choosing to play Goblins is a metagame choice. Either of the Goblin builds are still a very strong choice for choosing a viable tournament deck. This wraps up the basics of the new Standard.
