Are we sick of recursion yet? Well if you read my article ´´Night of the Living…,” you would know my love for the graveyard and its many uses. This deck holds your land in the graveyard, Planar Birth to spit it up, and Landslide to dish it back out. It works great, and it is fun to do. Multiple Landslides and Planar Births help deliver the pain.
Red (24)
4:Landslide (Key Card \ Flings the Mountains)
4:Seismic Assault (Ditches land in hand for damage \ Fills up graveyard for Planar Birth)
4:Magma Burst (Multiple target damage \ Ditches land)
4:Ogre (Ditches cards in hand \ Deals damage)
4:Lightning Bolt (Direct damage)
4:Shock (Direct damage)
Blue (8)
4:Soldevi Sage (Ditches land \ nets you cards)
4:Frantic Search (Nets you cards \ Ditches some cards)
White (4)
4:Planar Birth (Key Card \ Fetches land)
Land (24)
17:Mountain
4:City of Brass
3:Gemstone Mine
This deck’s concept came out of talking to an employee of Fanfare Comics and Cards (Kalamazoo, MI). He said he was bought a pack of 6th edition and was determined to make a deck out of at least one card in the pack. As I began to rack my brain as to what kind of deck he would be making, he gave me a look only a mother could love. Then he said ´´A Soldevi Sage deck.´´ I was frozen in curiosity. ´´Soldevi Sage?´´ I replied. This card couldn’t win itself out of a tournament with Squires and Ouphes…maybe he was mistaken. ´´Yep´´ he began, ‘a Soldevi Sage deck.´´ Puzzled I asked him how it worked. He described to me the concept of the deck. “Planar Birth would bring back the lands lost by the Sage and landslide would pitch them all.”
It sounded crazy, but since I began playing magic I’ve always been trying to find out new ideas and new concepts. I am confident enough to say that I had some say-so in the Skirge Familiar popularity. I sent an article into the Magic Dojo as just an idea. I doubted its speed and effectiveness. More or less, it’s just fun to play.
Well, it seemed they posted new articles every week (back when it was running) so I kept checking to see if it was there. I love getting my articles posted, but more importantly read. Sharkshares or not, just seeing the mere fact that my article is being looked upon and read by newcomers and veterans alike, is very rewarding. Well, back to the story…
There it was…I was so proud. My Familiar Bargain deck was there to stay. This is the deck:
Familiar Bargain
Black (36)
4:Bubbling Muck (Makes more mana)
4:Yawgmoth’s Bargain (Life into cards)
4:Skirge Familiar (Cards into mana)
4:Dark Ritual (Black staple indefinitely)
4:Bog (3 black mana from a card in hand)
4:Rain of Filth (Sac all you lands after you tap out)
4:Yawgmoth’s Will (Reuse the Rituals and Bubbling Mucks)
4:Drain Life (Key card tat caps it all off)
4:Vampiric Tutor (Finds the bargain)
Artifacts (4)
4:Defense Grid (Helps prevent prevention)
Land (20)
16:Swamp
4:Peat Bog
This deck was basically just an idea that I thought some Dojo players might actually consider. If the Dojo did one thing, it was that it posted a lot of the same decks. I remember seeing 48 burn decks almost exactly alike. Two weeks or less later, I saw about 15 decks copying my theme. I figured that it had to be a coincidence…they saw the same thing…or maybe they were using my idea. Either way, the deck did work out well. So if Jackalopaggedon suddenly sweeps the summer tourneys like the Necro decks I can only say, I told you so.
