Assault Prevention

How do you disable attacks? The “just walk away” tactic holds no ground whatsoever in Magic. Oh no, you must show to your opponent that fighting is bad. Take for example this instance, Decree and island Sanctuary. These cards were obviously made for each other. This will stop creatures from attacking you, but it won’t teach your opponent his lesson. No sir, we need to leave a lasting impression so he or she doesn’t forget. Well whenever he attacks, blast his creature with cards like Crossbow Infantry and Ballista Squad. Repercussion damages players equally if their creatures receive damage. Now to add the Coup De Grace we throw in Maddening Imp. Whether they want to or not, your opponent will learn their lesson.

Halting the Horde

White (18)
4:Ballista Squad (Big damage to the attacking creature late in the game)
4:Crossbow Infantry (Pinger)
4:Heavy Ballista (Pinger)
2:Elite Archers (Big Pinger)
4:Disenchant (Enchantments and artifacts that threaten the combo are halted)

Red (10)
4:Lava Storm (Blast their attackers with your repercussion/kill their blockers)
2:Heat Stroke (Not getting any of the combo? Just simply put this into play)
4:Reprecussion (Key Card/damage their creature when they attack so in turn damage them)

Artifacts (4)
4:Caltrops (Extra hurt for their creatures and your opponent)

Black (4)
4:Maddening Imp (key card/makes opponent’s creatures attack)

Land (18)
4:Peat Bog
4:Remote Farm
4:Sandstone Needle
4:Urborg Volcano
2:City of Brass

If they aren’t playing creatures or don’t have any, just attack. Not getting the Imp? Either wait or attack them yourself. Even if you don’t have Repercussion in play the pingers still work effectively.

The Wretched and Entangler might be a cool combo to work into this deck. It could work well with Maddening Imp if you see fit.

Blue has a lot of pingers, but really, I didn’t want to splash another color. Go for the gusto and try it if you want. (Rootwater Hunter and Prodigal Sorcerer to name a few).

That’s it for that deck and keep your eyes peeled for more articles by Nick Rohr. (The only plug that will be posted apparently…) E-mail your thoughts and ideas to evapilot123@hotmail.com. Adios!
