This report is getting ready for the release of Odyssey, and the termination of type 2 as we know it. These combos are planned after the Mercadian block rotates out.
You should really agree with me, Coalition Victory is one of the funniest cards in type 2, and is really fun to play unless your opponent is playing counterspells.
3WBUGR – Coatlion Victory
Sorcery – Invasion – Rare
You win the game if you control a land of each basic type and a creature of each color.
Really dumb huh? If you think that it’s almost impossible to win a game with it, you are probably correct. I came up with a list of creatures that could possibly be the keys to getting your creatures the right color.
Birds of Paradise
Utopia Tree
Tidal Visionary
Cromat
Lightning Angel
Meddling Mage
Llanowar Dead
Spiritmonger
Kavu Chameleon
Blazing Specter
Jungle Barrier
Questing Pheldagrif
These are the ones that I came up with that could possibly be used in the deck. Then, I came up with a list of possible non-creature cards:
Harrow
Rampant Growth
Coalition Victory
Sphere of Resistance
Collective Restraint
Allied Strategies
Worldy Council
Evasive Action
Fertile Ground
So, here is the fastest way I could come up with pulling off the victory. Obviously, it would be an amazing hand that you will never get, but hey…why not try it?
Turn 1: Swamp, Ritual, Pain/Suffering your self, Discard Cromat, Life/Death your cromat back in play
Turn 2: Forest, Harrow Forest, get a forest and plains, Rampant Growth for mountain
Turn 3, Swamp, Arena
Turn 4: Island, Ritual, Coalition Victory
Here is another way to do it:
Turn 1: Forest, Birds of Paradise
Turn 2: Forest, Harrow, sacrifice forest for island and mountain
Turn 3: Plains, Meddling Mage, Utopia Tree
Turn 4: Swamp, Blazing Specter
Turn 5: Land, Coalition for the win.
Then I tried to make one that could actually win. It needed some form of control to protect your permanents or get rid of your opponent’s threats. This deck was going to use Meddling Mage, Birds of Paradise, and Blazing Specter to come in with the win. This gives the deck discarding and stops them from playing a certain card.
Here is the decklist I came up with:
Creatures:
4:Birds of Paradise
3:Utopia Tree
4:Meddling Mage
4:Blazing Specter
Enchantments:
3:Collective Restraint
2:Elfhame Sanctuary
Instants/Sorcery:
4:Harrow
4:Worldly Council
2:Allied Strategies
3:Coalition Victory
2:Global Ruin
Lands:
8:Forest
8:Island
4:Plains
2:Swamp
2:Mountain
I think it could make totally IBC. However, the Birds of Paradise are really good. If you would like to make this deck IBC, I suggest you switch the Birds of Paradise to L:ay of the Land. Unfortunately, it may cause a problem with the mana base.
The deck breakdown:
Not including basic land, there are 16 cards helping the mana situation. These help to speed up the deck and get the mana you need.
Six card Drawing engines are very handy. The Worldly Council is a bargain at 2 mana. You can take a peek at the first 5 cards of your library, get rid of 4, and keep one. This is much better than index. Allied Strategies is costly but lets you keep all of them.
Thirteen cards are in this deck to control and slow down your opponent. The multi-color creatures are chosen specially for this. Meddling Mage can shut down your opponents key cards in their deck. Blazing Specter can fly in and take out big cards in your opponent’s hand. Collective Restraint will give many decks problems because they won’t have enough mana to attack with small creatures. Global Ruin is simply amazing. It isn’t too hard to get because of the card advantage, and if this can get through un-countered, your opponent is in for a tough time.
If you want to win a lot of tournaments, don’t make this deck. However, this deck is fun to play. I plan on playing a deck like this in a type 2 online tournament this weekend, so I’ll put the tournament report up next week.
Well, I hope you have fun checking this deck out, and if you have any more fast ways to pull the Coalition off you can mail the to me at Londes28@aol.com. I think I can put them up at the bottom of this article. Thanks!
