CardShark Content - Nick Rohr (9/3/2001)

Ever wanted to use Death Pit Offering for more than a drink coaster?

I sure did. I saw it and instantly noticed the +2/+2 to all of your creatures, then noticed the drawback. But I knew that you could SOMEHOW make a deck around it (be it combo, or whatever). Well combo was the only thing that struck me, but boy did it hit me. It hit me like Jump cast on a Floodgate. It hit me like Rupture cast on an Ouphe. It hit me like a Rabid Wombat enchanted with 4 Rancors and 4 Armadillo Cloaks. It hit me like a series of bad analogies that had relevance to other Magic cards.

´´EUREKA!´´ I shouted. ´´This is the best thing to happen to Magic since…Great Wall or…or…Helm of Chatzuk…or even…Sorrow’s Path!´´ I immediately rushed to my chair and pondered the other cards in the deck. It was perfect…Play Death Pit Offering, then afterwards, play Living Death! And to ensure a clear path, Urborg Justice! A simple 2 card combo with a back-up plan…how sweet…

The Living Death Pit Offering

Black (41)
4:Living Death
3:Urborg Justice
4:Death Pit Offering
4:Order of Yawgmoth
4:Skittering Horror
4:Skittering Skirge
4:Skulking Fugitive
4:Dark Ritual
4:Bubbling Muck
4:Duress
2:Phyrexian Negator

Land (19)
4:Peat Bog
15:Swamp

This deck has a bunch of speed to cram in damage before you sac them all. But the even bigger advantage is that most of them are self-destructive! The skitterers (is that a word?) kill themselves when another creature enters play. Fortunately, they enter simultaneously so they don’t kill each other.

Duress proves another potent weapon (Duh). It can strip away effective threats early (Duh).

If your opponent has creatures in the graveyard, cast Urborg Justice. It should take care of all of them. If it doesn’t, just attack right through them.

Bubbling Muck is extra mana and is Black’s High Tide. I use it in any black deck that needs a lot of mana. That’s also why there are 4 Peat Bogs and 4 Dark Rituals.

Order of Yawgmoth makes them discard and it has evasion. Multiple Death Pit Offerings could make this guy really deadly.

This has been another article by Nick Rohr reminding you that original decks are a lot more to. E-mail me at evapilot123@hotmail.com
