How to Sell

Welcome to CardShark, premier way to buy and sell gaming collectables on-line. In this section you will learn how simple it is to sell your Magic: The Gathering, Magic Online, Lord of The Rings, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Marvel and other gaming collectables with our site. After you register with CardShark you can list your inventory for sale in seconds!

PayPal
Before we get started, we want to tell you a little bit about how our e-commerce system works. We use a third party e-commerce provider that is reliable, efficient, easy to use and, most of all, familiar to gaming traders like you. We chose PayPal because it meets all of these requirements.

To buy and sell items on CardShark you must be a member of PayPal. Signing up is quick and easy. Once completed, you can sell your stuff.

As a seller, it's to your advantage to use an electronic system like PayPal instead of a traditional check writing system. CardShark automatically pays you by an electronic funds transfer from our PayPal account into yours. This money can then be used elsewhere on the Internet, or withdrawn to your checking account electronically. With this method you are paid faster, there is no chance your check will get lost and the whole process is environmentally friendly.

Get a jump start on the registration process by registering with PayPal now. Simply click the PayPal logo on the left. If you already have a PayPal account, be sure to use the same email address when registering with CardShark. If you do not wish to register yet, you will have a chance when we send you your first payment.

Sell Stuff
Selling is simple on CardShark. We provide 4 easy ways to list your cards and figures for sale.
  1. Card/Figure Set and Number - The easiest way to list your cards and figures for sale is to use our number system. This system works for any set later than the Exodus expansion set in Magic and for all Mage Knight sets. Use this method for the M:TG card if it is from any of the following sets: Classic Sixth Edition, Seventh Edition, Unglued, Exodus, Urza's Saga, Urza's Legacy, Urza's Destiny, Mercadian Masques, Nemesis, Prophecy, Invasion, Planeshift, Apocalypse, Odyssey or any new set after these. Go to the "Sell" tab on our web site, select which set your card is from (or figure), then type in the card or collector number.

The card number is located at the bottom/center of the card in small type. It is usually after the copyright date and is in the format 2/350. In this example, "2" is the card number to enter and the 350 is the total number of cards in the current set. This will bring you to the card selling page with your card loaded.

  2. Card Name and Rules Text - If selling cards from multiple sets, use our search feature on the "Sell Cards" page to search by card name and rules text. If more than one card is returned by your query, select the appropriate card from a list and continue to the card selling page.
  3. Sell a copy of this Card link - An alternate way to sell cards is to use the "Buy Card" or "Quick Search" features. Using either method, from the card detail page of any card, you will be able to select the "Sell Your Copy" link to bring you directly to the card selling page for this card.
  4. Uploading Large Quantity of Cards - This is the best method for selling a large number of cards. Upload your list of cards by using our card selling templates or creating delimited files (this can be done in Excel or any text editor). This method requires that you follow the precise format that we specify and that the card and set names match ours exactly. If there are problems when uploading a large batch file, they will be reported so you can make changes in your source file and try again. This is a great way for the highly organized Magic player or card dealer/shop to list their entire inventory easily. More instructions are given in the "Sell Cards" area under this option.

Card Selling Page
Once you reach the Card Selling Page after using one of the above methods to find a card to sell, you will see all relevant information about the selected card. You will then be able to include the Price and Quality (required for sale), after which, you card will become listed. You can list multiple cards using our quantity text box, but note that all cards listed must share the same price, quality, notes, etc. to list more than 1 at a time.

In addition to the card's price and quality, you can also select a number of advanced (optional) fields: FOIL, English or Foreign and any additional notes about the card (i.e., signed by the artist). All cards on the system have a minimum price of .05 and a few cards with higher rarities or from certain sets may have a higher minimum.

Seller Payments
When the buyer selects an item, it is added to the user's shopping cart. When the user "checks out", the selected items are purchased and payment is made from their PayPal account to CardShark. At this time an email is sent confirming the transaction to the seller and buyer.

Once you receive this email, you will need to go to the CardShark site to confirm this order. Confirming an order allows you to view the necessary shipping information for the buyer. Meeting the buyer's expectations is good seller's practices and will guarantee repeat business. We require you to confirm and ship all orders within 3 business days of receiving notification via USPS FIRST CLASS or PRIORITY MAIL. Our goal at CardShark is to create a site where buyers receive their purchases within a week and the sellers are paid quickly. If you do not confirm and ship the order within 3 business days, the buyer may contact CardShark to cancel the transaction and may also leave negative feedback. We don't want buyers and sellers to wait for an extended amount of time to complete a transaction.

A shipping allowance is provided and we have various shipping guidelines that we ask you to follow. The buyer has 10 business days to receive the cards (although it should usually takes 3-7 days. If they do not receive the cards within the expected amount of time, they may open an investigation and your payment may be delayed. If he buyer does not file a complaint, we will assume everything is satisfactory and you will receive an electronic payment from our PayPal account.

You will receive payments on Fridays for any transactions during the previous 8-21 days (depending on seller level). This method of payment is instant, environmentally sound and provides a firm schedule of payment to our sellers. We do reserve the right to withhold payment until a minimum of $5 worth of cards are sold or at our discretion if there appears to be a problem with a transaction. We will carry a balance for you if less than $5 worth is in your account and pay this out once a month. CardShark takes a 15% commission on all transactions and a portion of buyer shipping charges to defer transaction fees.
